Few years ago my wife came up with an idea on how to control and manage the students inside the classroom during lecture and activity time. She called it Group Achievement’s Card. She divided the class into three or four groups depending on the total number of the students but at least from 6-10 members of each group. She then made a card that has the group name and empty squares.
The rule is simple during the lecture time, the group that behaves well and listen to the teacher attentively will gain points and on the other hand if a group doesn’t behave well then they lose points. The same procedure during the activity time. Each student should participate on the activity and those who participate will get points for their GAC – Group Achievement’s Card and those who don’t participate will cause a deduction of point to their GAC. The points will be totaled after the class and the teacher will mark the square with a star or a stamp to indicate the total number of points accumulated. The points will continue until all the empty squares will be filled with stamps or stars.
The first group that completes the GAC will receive an award. After that the group will be given a new card. Those groups that are not done will continue to use them until they are all filled and the teacher will still give them simple gift.
I tried to use this in my class and it works like magic.
