10 Things to Consider before Writing a Lesson Plan

Few months ago I was ask to teach in our sister school for two weeks.  I just assume that the classroom has all the equipments like my classroom so I prepared my class just like my other classes.  When I started teaching I noticed that the projector was not there and so was the TV.  I found out that they took it to the technician for repair and nobody informed me.  So I learned a lesson from that experience.  I wanted to share with you something that I come up with after that experience.  I hope this will help you.

1. Prayer – I believe in the power of prayer so I consider this as very important.

2. Class Time and theme – It is important to know how many minutes/hours is the teaching time and also if it is on the first class, 2nd class or third class in the morning or first, second or third class in the afternoon, or even in the evening. Knowing the theme/topic before planning is important.

3. No. of Students in the Class- To give you an idea about everything that will transpire while having a class.

4. The classroom structure – It is very important to know your classroom structure. To help you imagine where you would place your visual aids, or materials for teaching and limitation of the activities you are going to make.

5. The available Audio/video devices – sometimes it is also good to use those audio/video devices

6. The sitting arrangements of the students – to make sure that you have access to most of them and that they all have access to you too.

7. The materials/visual aids available – have you experience that after you write the lesson plans and the possible visual aids to use you found out that the materials needed to make a certain visual aids or a picture is not available?

8. The students’ behavior as a whole – To know the students’ behavior in class would help decide which activity or method you use in teaching.

9. The age bracket of the students – This help you figure out the common interest and problems of your students.

10. The possible problems that may rise – (ex. Blackout, computer not working, etc.) Be prepared for it.
